Shopify Developer (Ongoing, Part Time)
Sobre este empleo
Qualifications and requirements
- 2+ years hands-on Shopify development, with stores you can show us
- Strong Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- You build in sections and blocks so clients can edit their own content without a developer
- You use metafields properly rather than putting structured content into product descriptions
- Confident working from Figma and matching a design closely
- Mobile-first in practice, not as an afterthought
- Strong written English and proactive, async communication
- Independent — this role exists so the founder can step back from execution, not to be project-managed
Job functions
You'll be responsible for the development side of our client projects, working directly with the founder.
- Building custom Shopify themes from Figma designs, with close attention to spacing, typography, and responsive behaviour
- Store setup and configuration: theme installation, apps, payment and shipping settings, domains and DNS, analytics
- Structuring product data properly — collections, variants, and metafields
- Store migrations and data imports from existing platforms
- Cross-browser and cross-device QA, plus pre-launch checks and redirects
- Flagging ambiguities or gaps in a brief early rather than guessing
Success looks like: clients can update their own sites confidently after launch, projects ship on schedule, and the founder isn't needed to check your work.
Conditions
- Approximately 40 hours per month, around 10 hours per week on average. Some weeks will be heavier depending on where a project sits in its phase.
- Fully remote, flexible hours — we care about output and communication, not when you're online
- Ongoing contract with room to grow as the studio takes on more work
- Paid in USD ($15-30 per hour)
- Hiring process: short intro call, then a paid test project (up to 5 hours, paid at your rate)
Desirable skills
- Experience with store migrations from WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or Squarespace
- Familiarity with Shopify Plus
- Conversion rate optimisation experience — understanding how design decisions affect AOV and checkout completion
- Basic technical SEO (site speed, structured data, redirects)
- Spanish and strong English speaker
Casa Hidalgo is a boutique design studio that builds websites and digital experiences for established eCommerce and service businesses - brands with real revenue and real customers whose online presence no longer reflects the quality of their work.
We're a small studio in a growth phase. Right now the founder handles strategy, design, and client relationships, and this role takes ownership of development. Our projects run roughly six weeks: strategy and design in the early weeks, build through the middle, then testing and launch. You'll be the person who turns approved designs into well-built, maintainable Shopify stores.
We care a lot about craft and about the client's experience after launch. Our clients are typically time-poor founders and small teams who need a site they can actually manage themselves — so how something is built matters as much as how it looks.
